Performance Coordinator

The Performance Coordinator provides support for achieving progress towards the goals identified in the company’s strategy. He or she also supports the company’s various departments in their continuous improvement initiatives. In fact, everyone’s goal is to improve continuously in order to enhance the company’s competitiveness.

Working closely with each department and their respective strategies, the Performance Coordinator is an asset for improving the functioning of the industrial complex!


Analyse expectations and practices

The Performance Coordinator is the go-to person when a department wants to improve. He or she must understand needs, analyse demands, and work with departments in building appropriate solutions. Solutions are wide-ranging: modify the work environment, modify management methods and tools, modify monitoring (steering) indicators and define work processes. Performance improvements are brought about through changes in practice, and the coordinator’s task is to coach the department through these changes by means of workshops, theory presentations and methodological support.

Work in the field

To understand and analyse needs, the Performance Coordinator needs to become immersed in the sector’s work environment. This involves being present in the field, observing the practices of each trade and profession, gaining familiarity with specific vocabulary, and analysing available data. With a good grasp of the situation, the performance coordinator is then better able to work with each sector in developing relevant solutions.

What are the essential qualities?


Rigour is a key quality for being a Performance Coordinator. Indeed, he or she must analyse every situation comprehensively and accurately to avoid overlooking details and to propose relevant and effective avenues for improvement. In addition, a improved approach is often what is expected by the sectors that turn to this professional.


The Performance Coordinator must be curious. Being active in some highly different and varied areas of activity, he or she must be well-informed through both research and personal presence in the field in order to understand properly workers’ needs and expectations.

Good interpersonal skills

To complete a mission successfully, the Performance Coordinator analyses each situation and makes proposals. Proposals include, among other things, introducing new tools and changing practices. The incumbent must be able to explain everything to different kinds of audiences, from equipment operators to managers. The incumbent must adapt to the audience and use appropriate teaching methods so that everyone can use these new tools.

Educational requirements

The profession of Performance Coordinator requires a bac +5.

General engineering schools and business schools are the preferred routes for entering this profession.

However, it is possible to enter an engineering school after earning a DUT (university diploma of technology). If you are interested in performance, look into DUT diplomas with a specialisation in production, such as the DUT in quality, industrial logistics, and organisation. With that diploma, you would then have to enrol in a qualifying year for an ATS (senior technician adjustment) and prepare for the competitive entrance exams for the engineering schools.

Note: In New Caledonia, it is possible to prepare for the competitive entrance exams for engineering schools and business schools by enrolling in, respectively, the qualifying programs at Lycée Jules Garnier and Lycée Grand Nouméa. Lycée Jules Garnier also has a qualifying ATS program.
